Early detection and effective treatment of schizophrenia leads to better long-term outcomes. Earlier treatment is associated with significant longer-term benefits, including: fewer or less severe symptoms, fewer hospitalizations, and higher functional abilities.
The 27 March 2018 didactic lecture examines the history of these observations and assesses the strength of the relationship between duration of untreated psychosis and longer-term outcomes among individuals with schizophrenia.
